The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 fell from record highs on Thursday, weighed by megacap stocks, as investors favored small-caps after a softer-than-expected inflation reading bolstered hopes that the U.S. central bank would cut interest rates in September. .N

At 13:37 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was up 0.08% at 39,752.85. The S&P 500 .SPX was down 0.87% at 5,584.76 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was down 1.78% at 18,314.959.
